About Us

The NYC Alpha Chi Omega alumnae chapter, known as Gamma Gamma, is a diverse group of women of all ages, ranging from recent graduates to alumni of many years. We are involved in a wide spectrum of career fields, ranging from finance to entertainment, and all have one thing in common – the unbreakable bonds and values of our beloved Alpha Chi Omega.

Chapter History

The History of Alpha Chi Omega tells us that the Gamma Gamma alumnae chapter was "established November 6, 1907 through the influence of Fay Barnaby Kent (Delta) Nella Ramsdell Fall, and Emma Crittenden (Beta)"

Charter members included:

  • Fay Barnaby Kent (Delta, Allegheny College) - President

  • Virginia Fiske Green (Theta, U of Michigan) - Vice President

  • Nella Ramsdell Fall (Beta, Albion College) - Assoc. Editor

  • Florence Armstrong (Mu, Simpson College) - Secretary

  • Emma Crittenden (Beta) - Treasurer

  • Daisy Snell Echlin (Beta)

  • Sara Frances Evans (Delta)

  • Jean Whitcomb Fenn (Beta)

  • Fern Pickard Stevens (Delta)

  • Alta Moyer Taylor (Delta)

At first, monthly meetings were held at members' homes or at a hotel. Their very first meeting was held on October 8, 1907 at the Fernery Tea Rooms at 14 West 33rd Street. Until 1909, monthly meetings were held at the Martha Washington Hotel at 29 East 29th Street. In 1926 evening meetings at the Panhellenic House were tried, and an added membership of business and professional women was secured.

The chapter began its altruistic work in 1910 with a concert, the proceeds of which were used for the fraternity's first philanthropic activity.
